Life Lately

I didn’t post last week so I thought now would be a good time give an update on my very bookish life right now. I’ve also got a few things coming up that I’m very excited about.

Writing Workshop

Yep. That’s right. I’m currently in a writing workshop. It was very last-minute. I entered a prose contest 24 hours before the class and got a portion of the fee off which is pretty cool if I say so myself. This will be the first time I’ve workshopped a piece of fiction before. It’ll also be my first time getting critiqued as an adult author other than the flaming I’ve gotten on some online articles. Can’t win them all I suppose.

It’s held in this really beautiful warehouse that was converted into studios for artists. I could spend all day there. They were in between updating the art on the walls, but still love this photo.

24 Hour Readathon

A Talent for MurderBefore anyone gets too excited, no, I didn’t do the full 24 hours. I love sleep and there’s just no way I can do the full 24 hours straight. Although, I do greatly admire those that do. My favorite book was A Talent for Murder by Andrew Wilson that came out this year in July.

It’s a story about the 1926 disappearance of Agatha Christie. If you don’t know, Christie disappeared for ten days and refused to speak about it and left it out of her autobiography. It’s highly unlikely that this story is what happened, but it uses so much from real life. Not only from what we know about Christie’s movements, but people who lived and died during that time.

I sympathized with what Christie is going through, but the author didn’t sacrifice who she was and you can see how brilliant she is under pressure. It’s hard for me not to love a mystery book, but this one was a solid read and I’d recommend it to anyone who loves Agatha Christie.

If you don’t follow me on Instagram, I think you should! I’ve been participating in a lot of book photo challenges as well as talking about books. It’s been a lot of fun to learn manual mode on my phone and camera and meet new people. You can follow me @thebookishcronk.  Here are a few of my favorites so far:

While I do want this blog to be about life, current events, and the books that are inspired by or about specific topics, I’m also planning to do more reviews in the future. I’m working on reading a couple of books coming out over the next few months that I’m very excited about. Look forward to that soon.

I hope everyone is having a great week and reading their favorite books with a cup of tea as the temperatures cool down.

Happy Reading!
