Favorite Books of February 2018

I had a stinkin’ awful, no good, rotten February. Maybe it was the shortened month so I had less days at work. Possibly it was the books I read being too serious or just flat-out bad. Maybe it was my mail getting placed in the wrong box and all my packages being sent back and experiencing bad customer service from my subscription box (bye Book of the Month. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

In November 2017, a complaint was lodged against The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas by a man to Katy Independent School District (KISD) school board. At this point, a “reconsideration committee” will be convened included one person who has experienced with the book and other members including library staff, district staff, students, parents and any other person that wants to be involved. This procedure was completely disregarded by the superintendent and this is why I’m helping put The Hate U Give back into communities in Katy, TX.

What is that book called?

Most lifelong readers can relate to the journey of reading a book when you’re younger and then trying to remember the book when describing as an adult. Remember? That elusive favorite book of all time that slip away from your memory? And you forgot about it? Does that sound familiar? The one thing I always remember is the joy it gave you. The joy is always there. Today’s story time is about that joy from a mystery book I found in an elementary school library in Texas.

Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House by Michael Wolff

As I write this, we are seven days into the New Year. And the news has been really strange. One of the top headlines was that the US President was trying to silence a publication of a book called Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House by Michael Wolff. I had no intention of reading it, but when I received a copy from a friend, I decided to see what it was about.
