The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

In November 2017, a complaint was lodged against The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas by a man to Katy Independent School District (KISD) school board. At this point, a “reconsideration committee” will be convened included one person who has experienced with the book and other members including library staff, district staff, students, parents and any other person that wants to be involved. This procedure was completely disregarded by the superintendent and this is why I’m helping put The Hate U Give back into communities in Katy, TX.

What is that book called?

Most lifelong readers can relate to the journey of reading a book when you’re younger and then trying to remember the book when describing as an adult. Remember? That elusive favorite book of all time that slip away from your memory? And you forgot about it? Does that sound familiar? The one thing I always remember is the joy it gave you. The joy is always there. Today’s story time is about that joy from a mystery book I found in an elementary school library in Texas.

New Year, Same Bookish Cronk

Happy New Year! The photo above is the fireworks show that happens in the neighborhood near me. They don’t plan on it every year; it’s just a nice surprise to be able to drink wine and watch fireworks from my third floor apartment.

I’m one of THOSE PEOPLE that enjoy setting goals for myself when a new year starts. I didn’t used to be, but it was nice to have a few goals last year to check back to and see how I was doing. My word of the year continues to be the same: Change. However, I’m still going to be me, but hopefully I’ll be a better version of myself and continue to grow. On, or around, November 20th, I realized I was going to fail 2017 NaNoWriMo. I was really excited about it this year and was more ready than ever to write something. However, when it came down to it, my writing was a mess. I’ve been trying to figure out how this would fit in with a blog about reading and life for a few weeks so hopefully this helps anyone who’s going in 2018 with some failure in 2017 and looking for encouragement.  Continue reading “Failure”
